12 Tags of 2015... August Tag

Hi and welcome to my blog. It's the middle of the month and I'm only now getting a chance to post my August tag for Tim Holtz's 12 tags of 2015.Can you believe that this is tag #8 already???  I love that Tim shows us how to get the most of what we already have in our stash of tools and papers,  through really cool and unique techniques. This month's tag is no exception- Tim uses dies to create a custom background for his tag.

I used my Silhouette machine to create my tag base and then followed along with this month's tutorial (click here for tutorial) for my tag. Here's my August tag.......

My tag is beach themed... lots of summery colors in blues greens and yellow for my tag.  I must admit that when I first applied the inks to my gesso-ed tag I was nervous that the colors wouldn't blend as well as they did for TH tag, but they did!!! I really like this technique and I will be trying it out on future projects!! My seashorse was created on my Cricut Explore machine using the Life is a Beach  cartridge and the words on the tag itself were custom made on my Silhouette machine. I added white pearl paint to the seahorse and then wiped some TH Distress ink in Peeled Paint to the edges. The miniature bottle is filled with glitter in god and blue and tiny seashells that  collected while on vacation in the Bahamas a couple of years ago. I tied a sailors knot with some chunky twine and added a TH metal arrow and a fish ( painted with Weathered Wood distress paint and Peeled Paint). The sand dollar was given a similar treatment. I printed off a quote and cut it into strips and spritzed it with Lindys Stamp Gang Opal Sea Oats Starburst spray .

That's my August tag... thanks for looking!!

12 Tags of 2015... July tag

Hi and welcome to my blog. The tag for July for the 12 Tags of 2015 ( click here for tutorial)  is a patriotic themed tag... I love the tag but unfortunately Stampers Anonymous doesn't have any Canadian themed stamps, so I had to make do with what I have.

Here's the tag for July ........

Here's my tag......

I used a Canadian themed paper for my background and for my strips I used from Stampin' Up! and CTMH , inked TH Distress Ink ( Fired Brick) and followed the tutorial. I happy with how my tag turned out, even though it's very different from Tim's tag.

That's my tag... thanks for stopping by my blog today.

I love how he incorporated a giftcard holder onto this tag.  My tag uses elements I had in my stash to create my own version.

I created this fun fan using my Cricut Explore and the cartridge . The background was made using the same TH stencil and Distress Ink pads. I stamped the sentiment from a CTMH set called My Life and I added a few TH ephemera pieces , some seam binding ribbon and a clip and metal embellishment to finish off this tag.
Well that's another tag finished!! I'm so loving this...I'm already looking forward to July's tag!!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!!

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015 ... May tag

Hi and welcome to my blog. I have another post to share with you today..... two in one day, yay!!! This one is for my 12 Tags of 2015 . When I first attempted to make my own version of the tags I was so nervous... they look so complicated ! Tim makes it look easy.... and with the beautiful samples he creates , I am totally hooked!!!! Here is the current may tag and a link( click here)  to the step by step tutorial....

You know what my favorite thing about this tag is.... the burlap!! Love that element for a tag, plus all those ephemera pieces. I dug out my inks, burlap, ribbon and my TH goodies to make my very own nostalgic themed tag.......

I don't have the Photobooth package but as luck would have it , I found a vintage photo in the Thrift Shop ephemera pack!!! I used the technique in TH tutorial to add my burlap to my tag, stencilling and coloring  and to tint my pic . After I added all my embellishments , I tinted my seambinding ribbon with Lindys Stamp Gang Starburst spray in Cocklebells Coral. The flowers are a combination of a couple of handmade ones and a pair of mini roses from Wild Orchid Crafts.
Another tag completed!!!! Cant wait for the June tag!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.... have a great day!

Twelve tags of 2015 ... April tag

Hi and welcome to my blog. Although I made my tag as soon as the new tag was posted on Tim Holtz's blog , I'm only just now getting around to posting it! Here's the link to the April tag  and here are Tim's tags....

I really loved these tags... they made me  feel hopeful that spring is finally here.... even if we are still buried under tons of snow!!!!

I used my Silhouette Cameo machine to make my base tag ,and then searched through my stamps to find one to go with the tag and here's what I made.....

I used a Stampin' Up! stamp set called Pleasant Poppies.. it was one of the last stamps I purchased as a Demo ( more than three years ago) and I'm only now just inking it .  I dusted off my Spritzer tool ( another leftover from my SU days) , got out my TH inks and markers and aqua pen and I followed the tutorial to create this tag.  I'm super happy with how it turned out!

Well, that's my April tag... thanks for stopping by!

12 Tags of 2015 March Tag

Hi and welcome to my blog. I've been playing along with Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2015 ..there's so much to learn!!  Here is the March tag....

The technique this month is about creating a background with Distress Paints and water... I just love the vibrant colors of Tim's tag.  My tag's colors are a lot more subdued... I used my Prima chalkboard paints for my backgrounds as I have only a few shades of Distress Paints  ( another thing to add to my want list!!). I used the same technique and here's what I came up with......

I stamped the butterfly with Stazon ink on a transparency and fussy cut it and then adhered it to the stamped image on the tag. I like it how it popped from the tag ... it adds just a little dimension. The metal embellishments and seam binding ribbon were from my stash .

That's my tag... looking forward to April's tag!

Tim Holtz twelve tags of 2015 ; February tag

Hi all! I'm late getting my tag made for the TH 12 tags of 2015  because my order of TH goodies hasn't arrived yet!!!! Here's what I came up with using this month's tag tutorial......

I used an assortment of tags and papers from my stash to create the base layer and then added various goodies to finish it off. The hearts were cut out of muslin , inked and stamped with a TH script stamp in Frayed Burlap ink and edged with Vintage Photo Distress Stain. The key and lock were a brassy color so I painted them with a few coats of Brushed Pewter Distress paint.

Here's a pic of some of the inks, stamps and paints I used to create my tag .... all Tim Holtz except the gel medium.

Click here for the full tutorial .

That's my February tag....I can't wait until next  month's tutorial!
Thanks for stopping by today!

12 Tags of 2015.... my first ever TH inspired tag

Hi and welcome to my blog! As you may have already guessed , this blog post is about my first ever Tim Holtz inspired Tag . Mixed media has become a major part of my scrapbooking style and I've even begun to venture into canvas and other  forms of mixed media art. I've been following the 12 Tags series for awhile but this is my first ever tag!! Check out Tim Hotlz's blog for an awesome tutorial and check out all the cool tags that have been submitted. But first here's my tag..........

I didn't have all the products that Tim used so I made do with what I had on hand. First, I made my tag out of beige cardstock and then crinkled some vintage print paper ( Stampin' Up!), sprayed it with water and then adhered it to the tag. I then added layers - lots of them, using distress paints, inks and sprays . Water was spritzed in between layers to blend the colors . I then added a layer of Rock Candy crackle paint and over that a coating of dry glitter over the entire tag. After it had dried , I used a bit of black gesso and a TH clockwork stencil . I followed the tutorial for adding glitter and glossy accents to letters - I used some old chipboard numbers and CTMH letters.  I had a sheet of word blocks that represent some of my goals for 2015. I used a graphite pencil in black to shade around the words and then with my aquabush, I smudged it for a softer look. A few embellishments ,sequins, and a bit of ribbon, tinted with distress stains, and finally, a bit of inking on the edge and my tag is done!

Here's some of the products I used to create my tag.

I'm looking forward to the next tutorial!!!
