Mojo Monday 411 : God Bless You card

Hi and welcome to my blog. Today is Monday and time for another awesome sketch by Julee Tilman for  Mojo Monday ...

The clean and simple design of this sketch really appealed to me.... so I didn't add any fussy cuts or layers for my card.

I used an older paper collection from Fancy Pants Designs (Summers End) for my paper layers and even my stamps are ones that I've had in my stash for awhile. The flowers are from a real oldie Treasure Life set that is at least 8 or 9 years old and the sentiment is from a newer set called Card Chatter-Sympathy... both stamp sets are from Close To My Heart. The buttons are Stampin' Up! - yep, more oldies!!

That's my Mojo card ... thanks for stopping by!

Under the sea mini canvas

Hi and welcome to my blog. While most of the country is enjoying hot summer days , it's been quite the opposite here in Newfoundland ( rain and more rain .... **sigh**)  but at least it gives me a good excuse to play along with Anything But Cute 's current challenge again!  I had so much fun creating a summery layout ( click here to see my layout) that I had to play along again.

Here is the mood board ...

I followed the beach theme a little more with my mini canvas.....

I started off with a 6x6 canvas and I created my own textured background by applying a thick coat of Prima Artbasics modeling paste....I was going for a wave effect. It looks better in RL, I promise !!

Then I used various shades of blue and green Deco paints and started painting and painting. I let it each layer dry before  lightly applying gesso to soften the blue tones. I then spritzed the entire surface with Ranger's Perfect Pearls mist in Biscotti. It adds a nice subtle glimmer effect which doesn't really show well in the photo, but trust me, it looks great!

Here's a close up....

The metal starfish and sanddollar were purchased on eBay and I just painted them and did a little distressing. I cut the seahorse out on my Cricut Explore using the Life is a Beach cartridge. I followed a tutorial on Tim Holtz's blog ( July 2014 tag) to create the crackled grunge look for my seahorse. The sand was a mixture of TH distress glitter in Pumice Stone with a bit of Stormy Sky for contrast. I used some Art basics 3D Gloss gel to adhere it to the canvas.  I hand cut my tag and stamped the base with a ledger stamp from Stampin' Up! Open Sea set ( the anchor on the tag is from this too) and the sentiment is from CTMH , oldie but still a goodie set called Treasure of the Heart. Finally, I added some flat back pearls , a bit of netting and sequins .

That's my mini canvas ... hope you enjoyed! Thanks for visiting my blog today!

12 Tags of 2015... July tag

Hi and welcome to my blog. The tag for July for the 12 Tags of 2015 ( click here for tutorial)  is a patriotic themed tag... I love the tag but unfortunately Stampers Anonymous doesn't have any Canadian themed stamps, so I had to make do with what I have.

Here's the tag for July ........

Here's my tag......

I used a Canadian themed paper for my background and for my strips I used from Stampin' Up! and CTMH , inked TH Distress Ink ( Fired Brick) and followed the tutorial. I happy with how my tag turned out, even though it's very different from Tim's tag.

That's my tag... thanks for stopping by my blog today.

A Mixed Media Father's Day canvas

Hi and welcome to my blog. My favorite aspect of mixed media is that you can take so many types of art forms and mix them together.. stamping , stencilling ... it all works beautifully together to create one of a kind works of art!! Anything But Cute Challenge blog  encourages us to have fun with this style with great monthly challenges. This month 's challenge is Make it Masculine and the DT has great projects to share and inspire so go check them out!!

Today I wanted to share with you a mini canvas I made for my hubby for Father's day. My husband works out of country so I wanted to make something portable but at the same time durable. I found some thin 7X7 canvas at a local boxstore which are perfect for this type of craft. I started off by using a brick stencil and Prima Art Basics Modeling paste. I love the chunky texture and it's a perfect medium for adding lots of layers of colour!

I love how this canvas looks already and I haven't added anything yet!!

I then added layers of color with Lindy's Stamp Gang and Tim Holtz Distress ink sprays. I usually end up going for more brown tones in my masculine mixed media projects but this time I wanted a different look so I used more gray and yellow tones with splashes of black and white.

Next, I pulled out some background stamps. They are great way to add layers without bulk.

Now onto the next steps.......

I heat embossed some chunky argyle pieces that I custom made with my Cricut Explore with a Ranger puffy black embossing powder and for a bit of shine, I then spritzed the pieces with Prima Bloom spray in Precious Stone. I adhered a few strips of washi tape to the two corners. Then I added some Prima embellishments, buttons, ribbon, and a stamped sentiment from CTMH set Family Love , some AC enamel dots, and here is the finished project......

I love how this turned out and I can't wait to give it to my hubby!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.... have a great creative day!!

12 Tags 0f 2015... June tag

Hi and welcome to my blog.  I've been playing along  with Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2015 since January and this month Tim has a new technique to share with us. Tim shows us how to create a plaid background with Distress Inks and stencils.... so cool, huh?? Click here for a link to Tim's tutorial.

12 tags of 2015 - June by Tim Holtz | www.timholtz.com

I love how he incorporated a giftcard holder onto this tag.  My tag uses elements I had in my stash to create my own version.

I created this fun fan using my Cricut Explore and the cartridge . The background was made using the same TH stencil and Distress Ink pads. I stamped the sentiment from a CTMH set called My Life and I added a few TH ephemera pieces , some seam binding ribbon and a clip and metal embellishment to finish off this tag.
Well that's another tag finished!! I'm so loving this...I'm already looking forward to July's tag!!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!!

Mojo Monday inspired cards

Hi, I'm back with a couple more cards to share with you. I'm using the current sketch over at Mojo Monday as my inspiration. Here's the latest sketch:

I made two cards for using papers from Fancy Pants Designs Collecting Moments 6X6 paper pad.

I made the sentiment mats using a cutfile and my Silhouette machine . The sentiment for the first card was from a CTMH set called Treasure Life  and the second card greeting is from C.C Designs set called Sassy Sentiments. I think this may have been the first time in ages where I didn't ink, stencil or distress my card in any way!!! The only altering I did was add some Stickles to the flowers . So quick and easy but I love them both!!!

That's my Mojo cards this week... hope you enjoyed! Thanks for dropping by!

Shaped Santa card

Hi and welcome to my blog. It's been snowing heavily for a week straight and it really looks like a winter wonderland out there! I'm so ready for spring!!! ** sigh*** But since it's still looking very wintery out there, I'm still in the mood for Christmas cards!!  This week over at Jingle Belles Stef and Lauren are asking us to get in shape for the holidays.... luckily no workouts are needed for this challenge!! All you need is to make a shaped card... whew! I can do that! I recently purchased a few cutfiles from SVG Cuts ( love , love that place!!) and one of the files is a shaped  Santa  card. Here is my  shaped card .....

This Santa reminded me of old-world style Santas , which I love. I used papers from a 6X6 paper pad from American Crafts called Kringle and Co. for the suit and hat. The trim and beard were cardstock, and embossed with a couple different folders. The beard was accented with some glitter for a little sparkle. The Santa is from SVG Cuts file called Santas' Visit and the wreath is from SVG Attic 's set Winter Wishes. The sentiment is from CTMH set Peace on Earth.
This was a fun card to assemble and I'm glad I got it finished in time for the current JB challenge.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Celebrate Today .. a birthday card

Hi and welcome to my blog. I never seem to have enough birthday cards , I'm usually scrambling to create one at the last minute! This year one of my goals is to be more organized and hopefully, more prepared as well! I've been making a few cards for different occasions , but  I still need more bday cards. To get my creative mojo flowing, I'm using this week's sketch over at Mojo Monday for my card . Here's the sketch:

Here's my card.......

I used papers from Fancy Pants Collecting Moments 6X6 paper pad and a stamp from CTMH called The party Is On , inked in Pear and Sorbet inks. Behind the sentiment and on the striped paper is a bit  of confetti stamp from Stampin Up! called Gorgeous Grunge stamp set ( in gold ink). The gold scallop border is from Teresa Collins , which I wrapped with a bit of crochet cotton. I made a clear pocket out of acetate and filled it with some sequins and a bit of glitter before sewing all sides up. Pretty simple ! I love how quick and easy this card was and that I can use it for either a child or adult's birthday!!!

Scrap The Boys January challenge layout

Hi all! Today is the perfect day to stay all warm and cozy inside while the wind howls and the snow is falling. I still have the kids back to school photos to scrap ... and the current challenge at Scrap The Boys is a good starting place to get at least one layout finished!  They have made some changes ( new DT members , new challenges and more so take a few moments to check them out!

 Here's the challenge for January:

I really like the colors and theme of this mood board. My son especially loves anything to do with cars and the GTO is his favorite but unfortunately we don't own one!!! But I did have a collection from Crate Paper called Boys Rule that fits this mood board.

Here's my layout.....

All elements are from Crate Paper Boys Rule collection. I used stencils ( The Crafters Workshop) , stamps( SU! Background Grunge and CTMH Geometric Backgrounds)  and inks to create the various elements on the base layer of cardstock and alpha stamps from CTMH ( and the quote as well) plus a few Thickers alphas were used for the title and date. A little bit of washi tape and some enamel dots ,from Prima, scattered about the page complete this layout.
The colours are more vibrant in RL but for some reason they look much more washed out in the photo---- I'm blaming all this stormy weather!! LOL

Thanks for checking out my blog today... have a wonderful & warm creative day!!

Cousins layout

Hi and welcome to my blog!  One of my most important tools for scrapbooking is to start with a good sketch . It gets my ideas flowing and helps me complete my pages so much quicker than if I started  from scratch! I used this great sketch from Kreative Concepts for my layout dedicated to my DD and her youngest cousin, who spent several weeks with us last summer.

Check out the sketch :

Sketch Challenge #28

I already had my photo of the girls printed so I went with just one for this layout. take a look.....

I started with a paper from Recollections ( Michaels brand) called Portobello Road

This is beautiful collection of subtle hues of blues, browns and creams with glitter treatments on several of the papers. For my layout I used a bluish green page that had a subtle script. For a pop of color and to follow along with the sketch, I stamped hexagons in a variety of oranges, browns and blues . I used Honeycomb Flair from CTMH - this was a set I bought when I was still a Demo but it hadn't seen ink until now!! I love all the patterns that come in this set... so much versatility!!! I also stamped a mini title on the side with another fav CTMH set called All the Details- Everyday Life. My larger title was created using two sets of Thickers and for a bit of interest . I splattered ink from October Afternoon  Sprinklers in Crepe Paper and paper Doily. These inks are so rich in color that even the white pops out  clearly from a page! To finish off my layout I adhered some sequins (Prima) and that's it-my page is finished!! I love that it took under half an hour from start to finish for this layout!

I hope you enjoyed my layout ... thanks for dropping by my blog today! Have a wonderful creative day!!

dream big layout

Hi all!!! This month over at Scrap the Boys , they are asking us to scrap what makes our guy tick.... to profile them. Well, when it comes to my son, that is easy---- anything to do with engines, cars, etc!!! He's 11 years old and al he thinks about , dreams about and mainly all he talks about is cars , engines or something related to it! I snapped a whole bunch of pics of him at a recent car-bike show , knowing one day I'd actually get around to scrapping  them! Here's my layout.....

I started off with this fun patterned paper from DCWV called The Generation Stack- it's mainly aimed at texting, gaming but I think it worked well for this layout. I used some embossing paste and a chevron stencil for the sides and then colored them with a green Gelato pigment stick. The polka dot  paper is also from that collection- I just inked it up with oranges and blues inks. .I made my own polaroid frame and stamped a sentiment from CTMH Maximum Power stamp set on it. The "right now " stamp is from Heidi Swapp ( for the journaling pocket) and of course, I used my favorite AC Thickers for the title. A few Basic Grey embellishments and this page is done!! Really, a simple and quick layout!
That's my layout -- hope you liked!!! Go check out Scrap the Boys blog for more ideas and inspiration!

Precious life layout...

Good afternoon! Another sketch has been released over at Sketchabilities, and of course , it's great!!! I love all the possibilities of layering and playing with different types of mixed media. The DT inspiration layouts are an added bonus- so much talent!!!Make sure you check out their designs!!

  Here is the latest sketch.....

I started my layout with papers from Teresa Collins Summer Stories collection and this is what I came up with.........

I laid a base coat of Gesso around the center of the base layer and went from there! You can hardly see it but I did stencil some  chevron in Tim Holtz gold metallic distress stain. It kinda blended into the background so I stamped a bit of CTMH houndstooth and burlap throughout the page, too. Pretty much everything is edged with Prima fluid chalk ink ( Black Coal) and-or distressed. The journaling tag and elements are all from Teresa Collins with the exception of the chipboard flower and button, which are from Prima, and the Washi polka dot tape is from CTMH.I may get around to adding some journaling- more than likely I will tuck it behind the photo or the journaling mat. One of these day...... lol!!! I added a notebook strip of cardstock in pale blue for a pop of color ( SU! spiral punch).

I love how quickly this page came together- having a great sketch really gets my creative mojo going!

That s my Sketchablities layout- hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for stopping by today.....have a creative day!!!

A boy's first love layout

Happy Monday! We've had a lovely and unseasonably warm summer so far , but today the skies are grey and it's threatening to rain... the perfect excuse to stay inside and scrap! It's been mainly just me and my youngest boy home all summer ... the eldest is working and the middle child away for a six week camp... so most of my pictures are focused on boy activities... like checking out car shows! This layout is all about Ethan's first love ...cars!! Does he ever love them and he knows so much about cars/trucks ( especially classic vehicles) from their engines, models, all the things I never needed to know before!!

This layout is dedicated to his love of cars..........

I started off with a distressed looking piece of cardstock from My Mind's Eye and then used my The Crafter's Workshop stencil and Tim Holtz distress stain in Vintage Photo to  add a bit of grungy  chevron to the base. The rest of my papers came from an old Cosmo Cricket 8X8 paper pad that I've had forever! It already looked grunged up so I only had to distress the edges a bit and ink the yellow strip and that was all! Pretty simple! I made my title using my Silhouette machine and I stamped a few sentiments on the yellow banner from a Simple Stories stamp. The blue and orange chevrons were stamped with a CTMH stamp and then handcut and adhered to the page . I scattered a few Prima Sugardots around the page, and a couple of Basic Grey elements and that's it!! I'm entering this layout over at Scrap The Boys blog for their boys and their toys challenge. They have lots of great DT ideas to get all your boy pages done!!

I hope you enjoyed my layout.... thanks so much for visiting my blog today!!

Bahamas Zoo - a double page layout

Hi all! After participating in  the current Jingle Belles and Shopping Our Stash combined challenge ( click here to see my card), I decided to pull out some of my older papers and get scrapping. I still have lots of pics from our family vacation to the Bahamas a few years ago, so I decided to use those, too! Here's what I came up with.....

I have a board dedicated to multiple photo /2 page layouts on my Pinterest site, which is where I found the inspiration for this layout. I grabbed a few sheets of this really bright American Crafts dp called Abode. The fun colors reminded of the vibrant colors of the Bahamas. The tags, pocket and journaling block are all from Simple Stories. The buttons are from my stash and the good times and arrow and chevron stamps are from CTMH set called Take Note. The cardstock is from my dwindling Stampin' Up! 12X12 cardstock. It's been over two years since I was a SU demo and I still have a substantial amount of 8.5X11 and 12X12 cardstock left!!
I love getting my layouts completed this quickly!!!

Thanks for stopping by!!

Today is a good day ....... for Mojo monday

Hi all! I'm back to share a card I made for this week's Mojo Monday challenge - here's the sketch:

I played around with a few products from October Afternoon 's 9 to 5 collection with a little Fancy Pants thrown in. Take a look.........

I love the cool retro office look of the 9to5 collection. All the papers and the journaling card and twine are from October Afternoon , the clip and button are from Fancy Pants. I used my Crafters Workshop stencil Coffee Splotches to age my papers with stains. There is minimal stamping on the front of this card...a sentiment from CTMH set called All the Details and a tab from True To Life.  This was a pretty simple and fun card to make and it's versatile for different occasions. Gotta love that!!!

Anyway... that's my  Mojo card- hope you liked! Thanks for dropping by!!!
